01Assess
Assess the Financial Structure
We review your assets, ownership arrangements, debts, guarantees and available liquidity. This helps us identify where financial pressure could arise for your family or business during succession.

The challenge
Wealth is not simply a financial value. It is a structure made up of businesses, investments, real estate, liquid assets and other components.
When the transition begins, the family does not only need to transfer ownership. It also needs sufficient liquidity to manage the obligations and decisions surrounding that transition.
This is what we call the Succession Liquidity Gap: the difference between the liquidity available to the family and the liquidity actually required during succession.
If that gap is not anticipated, it can place the family under significant financial pressure and may lead to decisions that affect the value of the wealth.
Four Main Situations
Succession can create a need for liquidity in many different situations. Here are four of the main ones, each with its own obligations, timing and funding needs.
Preparing liquidity to support your succession plan.
Our approach follows four connected stages, helping your family prepare for its liquidity needs while building on the arrangements already in place.

01Assess
We review your assets, ownership arrangements, debts, guarantees and available liquidity. This helps us identify where financial pressure could arise for your family or business during succession.

02Quantify
We estimate how much liquidity your family or business may need, and when. We compare these needs with the funds that could actually be available at each stage to identify any succession liquidity gap.

03Design
We design a strategy suited to your family’s needs and resources. Depending on the solution, the capital commitment may represent a limited proportion of the liquidity provided, with costs, timing and ongoing obligations taken into account.

04Coordinate
We work alongside your existing advisers, including lawyers, tax advisers, private banks, your family office and trustees where relevant. We align the liquidity strategy with your existing arrangements and clarify everyone’s responsibilities and the steps needed for coordinated implementation.
Riches & Guards complements the family’s existing advisory structure. We do not seek to replace it.
Riches & Guards works directly with founders, business owners, and individuals and families with substantial wealth across different wealth levels when they face a succession liquidity need. Depending on the founder’s preference and the circumstances of the case, we may work directly with the founder or alongside the advisers already involved. These may include family offices, trustees, lawyers, tax advisers, private banks and other specialists. In some cases, the founder approaches us directly.
In others, an existing adviser identifies a succession liquidity need and introduces Riches & Guards as a specialist focused on that specific requirement.
The Riches & Guards Knowledge Hub is being built as a growing intelligence platform around succession, wealth transfer and succession liquidity.

Features and jurisdiction coverage will become available progressively.
Watch Ghassan Obeid, founder of Riches & Guards, explain wealth transfer, inheritance tax and how legal changes worldwide can affect families and their succession arrangements.
Features and jurisdiction coverage will become available progressively.
It was founded around one specialist question:
How families fund the transition of wealth from one generation to the next.

Riches & Guards is a founder-led specialist firm focused on Succession Liquidity for HNW families, business owners and internationally connected families.
Through years of work, Ghassan Obeid identified a recurring challenge: substantial wealth and sophisticated structures do not always mean that sufficient liquidity will be available when succession occurs. That observation became the foundation of Riches & Guards.
